Nokian Tyres Shift Some Production And Stock Out Of Russia

Release Time :2022-03-04

Nokian Tyres are moving some of its key product lines being manufactured in Russia to Finland and the United States in anticipation of additional sanctions in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Nokian told Tyre News that their company is one of many grappling with how to respond as Russian forces sweep across Ukraine. However, most have focused on closing or moving operations in Ukraine while taking a more wait-and-see approach toward Russia.

While its factory near Saint Petersburg is operating at full capacity, Nokian says that it has begun transporting tyres out of Russia to warehouses closer to its customers.

While not all Nokian products manufactured in Russia could be manufactured in Finland or the United States, Nokian claims that no sanctions are currently affecting Nokian's Russian business.

While the situation evolves, the company could not say whether the move would be temporary or permanent.

According to Reuters, the tyre manufacturer has increased production in Finland and the United States to meet rising demand, but it still produces roughly 80 percent of its annual capacity of 20 million tyres in Russia, where it employs approximately 1,600 people.
